How much should I feed my Belgian Malinois?
The health and development of your furbaby highly depend on the food they eat. Contrary to what many believe, you cannot just feed your dog anything. You need to take into consideration a lot of factors when planning their diet including the dog breed, the age of your dog, its size, and even its energy level to ensure that they would grow healthy and strong at all times. If you have a Belgian Malinois and you are planning its everyday diet, then you should know that they are medium to large-size dogs that are packed with high energy levels. They are historically great guard dogs and were even a part of the military performing duties of their own.
Belgian Malinois are not picky eaters in nature. They almost always eat the food you place in front of them. This is why more than ever, you should be watchful of their food diet. Ideally, Mals require high protein on their diet since they are an active breed. This should take about one-third of their daily food consumption and should be adjusted as necessary. This should also be balanced together with good fats and other nutritions to ensure that your doggo can have maximum benefits.
A normal adult Belgian Malinois can be fed about 2-3 cups of dry food per day which should be divided into 3-4 meals. If you prefer wet dog food or home-cooked meals, this is possible too. Just be sure to follow the same portion equivalent to the serving size for the dry dog food. If you think that your Mal is a lot more active compared to others of its kind and engages in more intensive activities including strenuous exercises, then it would do you good to increase its food intake. Just be sure you don’t overdo it because otherwise, the effect could be detrimental to your Mal’s health.
If your Belgian Malinois is still a pup, then the ideal feeding schedule should be 4-6 meals a day. This decreases as they grow older and mature as an adult. Their number one diet should still be milk especially in their first few weeks and this can be mixed with your choice of high-quality dry food to ensure proper growth. Kibble is great for them as they are growing since this is packed with nutrition and it is good for their teeth. It is also equipped with the right nutrition that is a good substitute for home-cooked meals. No need to go through a lot of effort in food prep. Just choose the right high-quality brand available and the nutrition of your Mal is guaranteed.
The secret in ensuring that your doggo grows well and strong is by feeding it with the right balance of nutrition. This can be a daunting task but over time, you’ll find the right balance that will work well to your doggo.
